The title refers not only to the parent bird's contribution of a caterpillar to it's brood but also to the role which blue tits and other small, insectivorous birds play in the ecosystems of which they are a part. During the time that the brood is in the nest and just after, the young birds will consume a staggering amount of grubs and caterpillars which relieves the pressure on the plantlife in the bird's habitat. Every species has a contribution to make to their environment and each action, though it may be small, affects that environment in some way either positively or negatively.
