I love the forms and textures of old trees and stumps. They are perfectly sculpted by time and nature and when combined with characterful birds, like this little owl, they become irrisistable to me despite the challenge of describing them accurately in two dimensions. This particular owl has become very familiar to me as he sits in his stump most mornings soaking up a little sun.
