Spring provides some of the most satisfying experiences the natural world has to offer. Colours are intensified in the sun spring flowers are blooming and many birds are wearing spectacular breeding plumage. Arriving migrants bring the promise of summer with them as they arrive on our shores to breed. In my area yellow wagtails become plentiful and, to me, irrisistable subjects, my 'May treats'. The males are magnificent in the sun with their saturated yellow hues whilst the females are more subtle but no less beautiful. I was struck by the harmony of colour as these two busied themselves in the grass at the side of the track and a painting simply celebrating colour was born.
