Moorhens are black birds, everybody knows that. Actually under the right light conditions they aren't really black at all. In strong sunlight the wings show that they are really a deep brown and the reflected light reveals a range of purples and blues in the 'black'. This painting is an exploration of that and another example of my philosophy that there is beauty in the everyday if we only take the time to see it.
