If there is a theme which runs through my work, it is this: There is beauty in the everyday if only we take the time to see it. "Ordinary, extraordinary" typifies this philosophy.

The common starling is a stunning bird when considered in isolation. In the right light its plumage ripples with a myriad of colours. Like oil on water the light is scattered and all the colours of the spectrum shimmer over the surface of the feathers. In this painting this sheen compliments the rougher surfaces of rusty metal and brick found in the bird's farmyard habitat, even the speckling of bird droppings adds to the richness of the textures. There is beauty in the everyday if only we take the time to see.
