The sight of a male yellowhammer lit up by the early morning sun was the inspiration for this painting. I respond, often very strongly, to sights, sounds and experiences in the countryside around my home. Sometimes the creatures in our own back yards do not get enough attention from us and are seen as dull and uninteresting, yet if we take the time to really see them, instead of merely looking, then we can begin to appreciate their real beauty and the beauty of our surroundings.
